INDIGENOUS PARENT LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

Indigenous Visioning received a grant from the MN Department of Health to bring civic engagement opportunities to the Red Lake Nation and White Earth Nation communities. The purpose of the Indigenous Parent Leadership Initiative (IPLI) is to support parents and build on their leadership skills.

Two curriculum models will be used for IPLI:

  • The Indigenous Foundations (IF) curriculum established by Dr. Anton Treuer and community elders.

  • The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) curriculum sponsored through the National Parent Leadership Institute.

This project hopes to:

  • Empower parents to become the leaders they would like to be for children and families;

  • Expand the capacity of parents as change agents for children and families;

  • Increase parent-child interactions and improve child outcomes through parent involvement.
